Five local teams survived the opening round of CIF-SS baseball and softball playoffs on Thursday. In baseball, Huntington Beach defeated Moorpark 1-0 on an unearned run in the fifth inning in Division 1 action.
In softball, Pacifica, Loara, La Quinta and Huntington Beach posted wins. For the Mariners, Alyssa Brito had three hits and two RBIs in their 6-1 Division 1 victory over Valencia High of Valencia.
