A heat advisory warning for Orange County was issued Monday evening by the National Weather Service. It will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday in response to unexpectedly high temperatures.
Predictions of 88 degrees in Garden Grove were exceeded with reports of temperatures reaching from 94 to 99 degrees. Temperatures Tuesday could reach as high as 98 to 106 degrees, according to the NWS.
Residents are warned against overexposure, which could lead to heat cramps, exhaustion and heat stroke, also known as sunstroke.
People are advised to:
- stay in air-conditioned spaces
- stay out of the midday sun
- check up on relatives and neighbors
- arrange for outside work to be done in the early morning or evening
- wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing
- drink plenty of water.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency; call 911.
Signs of heat stroke include:
- throbbing headache
- dizziness
- lack of sweating despite the heat
- red, hot and dry skin
- muscle weakness or cramps
- nausea and vomiting
- rapid heartbeat
- rapid, shallow breathing
- agitation
- disorientation
- seizure.
