It’s not exactly Brexit, but the Huntington Beach City Council on Monday approved withdrawal from one of Orange County’s older intergovernmental agencies.
On a 7-0 vote, the council approved a resolution to pull out of the Public Cable Television Authority, which since 1979 has provided local programming on cable TV for the cities of Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster.
The withdrawal is allowed under a clause in the PCTA’s joint powers agreement that allows any member to exit when the cable franchise holder changes. The original cable provider was Dickenson Cable; more recently it was Time Warner Cable and now it’s Spectrum.
In other action on Monday, the council:
- approved a 10-year lease agreement with Kathy May’s Restaurant in Huntington Central Park;
- adopted a resolutionapproving special assessmentsfor collecting delinquent civil fines for nuisance violation of the municipal code.
A special meeting of the council has been scheduled for Friday, July 26 at 1:30 p.m. in Huntington Central Library. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the council will be held on Monday, Aug. 5 at 5 p.m. in the council chambers.
