Deal OKd with county for public works

An agreement with the County of Orange to provide some municipal services was approved Tuesday night by the Stanton City Council.

The council voted 5-0 to enter into a contract for a variety of services, mostly in the field of public works. According to a staff report, the contract will “result in cheaper prices and a greater depth of resources in the event of an emergency.”

Under the agreement, the county will perform routine services such as concrete replacement, street striping and guardrail repair. The work to be performed by the county is estimated at $100,000 annually. The agreement is for three years, so the maximum amount of the contract is $300,000.

In case of a need for “urgent” and emergency repairs, that amount could be exceeded. A recent sinkhole that couldn’t be promptly fixed with city staff and contractors led to this move.

Also on Tuesday night, the council approved:

• electing Carol Warren as mayor pro tem;
• an interim emergency ordinance on a 5-0 vote extending a temporary moratorium on new massage businesses for 12 months, pending a study and update of the city’s municipal and zoning codes.
