Sixth place tie feels a whole lot better

Having exited the basement of the National Hockey League’s Pacific Division with a 4-3 win over the Las Vegas Golden Knights on Friday, the Anaheim Ducks nearly slipped back to the bottom after a 2-1 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday.

That overtime defeat, however, gave the Orange County team one point, and their 37 points total was just enough to lift them into a sixth place tie with the San Jose Sharks.

The Ducks were able to post their win on Friday by rallying with three goals over a 97-second span at Honda Center. Scoring in that stretch were Adam Henrique, Cam Fowler and Max Comtois. It was Anaheim’s second victory over the Knights in 10 contests.

Things didn’t do quite so well on Sunday. Eric Gudbranson scored the lone Ducks goal in the first period. Fortunately John Gibson has 33 goals to keep the game close.

Ducks Stat Leaders (though Sunday)

  • Scoring: Jakob Silfverberg 26, Rickard Rakell and Ryan Getzlaf 25 each.
  • Goals: Silfverberg 13, Adam Henrique and Getzlaf 10 each.
  • Assists: Hampus Lindholm 16, Rakell and Getzlaf 15 each.
  • Goalkeeping: John Gibson 2.88 goals against average; Ryan Miller 3.21.

The Ducks will be back in action on Tuesday visiting the Golden Knights and the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday.
