OC Streetcar all the way to Anaheim?

Like the idea of being able to ride a streetcar right to Walt Disney’s front door?

On Tuesday the Garden Grove City Council will consider a resolution calling for the extension of the under-construction OC Streetcar linking Santa Ana and Garden Grove all the way into Anaheim.

The line – expected to be completed in 2022 – extends from Santa Ana’s transportation center west to a “mobility hub” on Harbor Boulevard in Garden Grove, a short distance north of Westminster Avenue.

This proposed resolution does not specify the details of such an extension, but refers to the Anaheim Resort area – Disneyland Park and Disney’s California Adventure – with possible terminus on Katella Avenue in Anaheim.

A 2018 study considered the possibility of extending the OC Streetcar north along Harbor, and the proposed resolution calls upon the Orange County Transit Authority, which is constructing the system, to “provide funding to advance appropriate project development efforts” for just such a expansion.

Garden Grove’s row of hotels along Harbor Boulevard could be served by such a route, and could also provide service for employees of those hotels who might live in the Santa Ana area.

The city council will meet in its chambers in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave. (east of Euclid Street) at 6:30 p.m.
