Santiago High School’s girls’ basketball team moved one step closer to a Garden Grove League title Wednesday night with a 57-39 win over Rancho Alamitos.
The Cavaliers are 7-0 in league (13-10 overall) with three games left to play. Rancho is in second at 5-2 and 13-9. The purple and white can clinch at least a tie for the crown with a win over Bolsa Grande on Friday.
Santiago was led by Brianna Landeros, who scored 21 points. Carolina Jimenez added 17.
In boys’ Garden Grove League play, both Los Amigos and Bolsa Grande posted wins, setting up a crucial matchup on Feb. 6 in the Lobo gym. Los Amigos defeated La Quinta 55-41 and Bolsa turned back Loara 51-40.
LAHS leads the GGL race by one game over Bolsa.
