Lions beat Grove, set up GWL showdown

WESTMINSTER High’s boys’ basketball team defeated Grove 48-33 Tuesday night to drop the Argos into a first place tie in the Golden West League with Ocean View.

Westminster High’s defeat of the Garden Grove High boys’ basketball team Tuesday night threw the Golden West League race into a deadlock.

The Lions bested the Argonauts 48-33. Combined with Ocean View’s 69-66 win over Western, there’s now a tie for first between the Argos and Seahawks for first, as each have 5-2 marks in conference play.

Those two teams will meet on Friday at Ocean View in a contest that will almost certainly decide the league title. Westminster, with the win, is 4-3 in GWL action, good for third place.

In other boys’ action Tuesday night, Cypress defeated Pacifica 84-60 in Empire League play.

On the girls’ side, Garden Grove remained undefeated in Golden West League play, beating Westminster 57-38. Tereise Tosi scored 23 for the Argonauts (7-0 in league play, 14-10, overall) whole Sandra Balandran had 22. Marilyn Guevera scored 20 for the Lions, who are 3-4, 6-9.
