UPDATE: The victim of the fatal accident on Wednesday at Chapman Avenue and Euclid Street in Garden Grove has been identified as Julie Varley, principal’s secretary at La Quinta High School in Westminster. A 59-year-old woman was killed after her vehicle was struck by another vehicle while hers was stopped at a red light in Garden Grove Wednesday afternoon.

According to Master Officer Paul Ashby of the GGPD, the incident took place at the intersection of Euclid Street and Chapman Avenue at 1:30 p.m.

A white 2017 Honda crashed into the rear end of the woman’s car, causing it to strike a third vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle was found to be unconscious and not breathing. She was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange where she was declared dead from her injuries.

Her name was not released pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Honda, a 27-year-old man, was also hospitalized. None of the people in the third car required medical attention.

After investigation, Garden Grove police arrested the driver of the first vehicle for driving under the influence and he was released to the care of the hospital pending the filing of criminal charges.
