New coronavirus cases drop, but …

Friday’s report of new confirmed coronavirus cases in Orange County receded from Thursday’s all-time high, coming in at 158 compared to 229 the day before. That total is the second highest recorded.

That brings the cumulative total of cases to 4,125, according to the Health Care Agency. There were also four deaths reported Friday, bringing the total to 84. Twenty-one of those were at senior nursing facilities.

At present, 212 people are hospitalized with the COVID-19, of which 78 are in intensive care units. One thousand seventeen tests were reported, bringing the county’s total to 66,267.

On a city-by-city basis, Santa Ana remains the leader with 683 cases, followed by Anaheim with 652, Huntington Beach with 285, Garden Grove with 207 and Orange with 191.

Local cities Westminster and Stanton have 72 and 41 cases, respectively.

Countywide, males are affected more than females. OCHCA statistics show that 54 percent of coronavirus cases are male, and 58 percent of coronavirus deaths as well.

By ethnicity, Hispanics/Latino are at 35 percent of all cases and 39 percent of deaths. Cases by age show the three groups with the most reported incidents are those 25-34 (18 percent), those 85 and older (17 percent) and those 65 to 74 (16 percent).
