Protests are continuing this week

A PROTEST in downtown Orange on Saturday was non-violent, but it did snarl traffic in the area of the plaza. More protests are planned this week across Orange County (OC Tribune photo).

Protest rallies and marches to demonstrate against the controversial death of a black man – George Floyd – last week in the custody of Minneapolis police are planned in Orange County this week.

  • A rally is planned by protesters in Garden Grove on Wednesday in the area of City Hall, to commence at 6 p.m. According to Lt. Carl Whitney of the Garden Grove Police Department, authorities are meeting with protest organizers.
  • In Anaheim, police say that rumored plans for a rally at Anaheim City Hall have led authorities there to declare a citywide curfew from 6:30 p.m. today (Monday) to 5:30 a.m. (Tuesday).
  • In Costa Mesa, a flyer is circulating referring to a planned protest at South Coast Drive and Bear Street. In response to that, another curfew will be enforced in that city by police, but the hours have not been published.
  • In Huntington Beach, a curfew for the downtown area of the city was imposed from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. “until further notice.”

  1. There’s suppose to be a protest today at the Aliso creek shopping center in Laguna Niguel around 4 pm. Whole Foods and the pharmacy have boarded up their businesses as well as other shops have closed due to the alert. The shopping center is off Aliso Creek Rd between La Paz and Alicia Pkwy.
