Here’s a blast from Orange County’s past which we are all glad (we hope) is very much in the past.  In the June 10, 1962 edition of The (Garden Grove) News, there’s an article about a housing development on Orangewood Avenue, one block east of Euclid in Anaheim.

The article about the Walnut Park Estates lists all the benefits of the new development, including an all-electric kitchen, intercoms, etc. Oh, and these homes are in a “carefully restricted residential area.”

“Restricted” means they were not available for sale to blacks, Jews, Hispanics and Asians.  The good old days weren’t all that good.

The Ocean View School District will begin its free Summer Community Meal program starting on Monday, June 22. The OVSD will provide “Grab-N-Go” breakfast and lunch meals to all children 18 and under at Oak View and Westmont elementary schools. The program runs Monday through Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. through Sept. 4. It’s closed July 3 because of Independence Day.

Get off the street! Street sweeping parking citations will resume in Westminster on Monday, June 22. Move your car from the curb or get ticketed.

It’s June and that makes it time for college graduations and other honors to local students in higher education. Here are some honorees:
