Budget goes before city council

Adoption of a city budget for 2020-21 tops the agenda for the Westminster City Council when it meets on Wednesday.

Due to the corona pandemic, the budget was originally projected with a $1 million deficit. That red ink will be balanced by the use of reserves, cuts in expenses and returns from capital projects. There are no layoffs foreseen, although several vacancies will go unfilled.

Also on the agenda for the meeting – to be conducted via webconference  – are

• in closed session, discussion of appointing a city manager;
• in regular session, several labor relations changes including one regarding the salary schedule for employees represented by the Westminster Police Officer’s Association and another being the reclassification (and renaming) of the city clerk’s function to city clerk/communications director;
• a presentation from Diana Carey, chair of the Measure SS oversight committee on the city’s 1 percent transactions and use tax, adopted by voters in 2016 and expiring in 2022.

The closed session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with the open session beginning at 7 p.m.
