The highest one-day death total from the coronavirus was reported today (Wednesday) by the Orange County Health Care Agency.

Twenty-six fatalities were noted by the OCHCA, bringing the cumulative deaths to date to 299 in the county. Of that number, 152 were residents of skilled nursing facilities.

The daily death count does not necessarily mean the number of persons who died from COVID-19 since the previous day’s tally. They are a sum of the new reports of deaths from the coronavirus. The total number of to-date deaths remains at 299.

Wednesday’s count of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 jumped from Tuesday’s figure of 144 to 354 today. The new cumulative sum of coronavirus cases is at 11,016, of which are from 1,099 skilled nursing facilities and 391 from county jails.

A total of 363 people are hospitalized, with 145 in intensive care units.

The city count shows Santa Ana the leader with 2,332 (up 72 cases from Tuesday), followed by Anaheim with 2,119 (up 59), Garden Grove with 632 (up 13), Huntington Beach with 503 (up eight) and Orange with 483 (up 12).

Westminster’s had 231 cases (up four) and Stanton 144 (up four).

  1. I can’t believe you reported this that way. Did you read the report? These 26 days were NOT from today they were from previous days.
    This is ridiculous.
