Council to address 2020-21 budget

A special meeting of the Huntington Beach City Council is called for Monday night to consider a budget for the fiscal year of 2020-21.

The general fund revised budget is set at $216,908,281; combined with all funds, the amount is $358,975,051.  No layoffs are planned, but the council may seek to cope with a $20 million shortfall of revenue because of the coronavirus pandemic by encouraging some employees to retire early. The target would be to reduce the municipal work force by 5 percent

The session will be held in the council chambers at 2000 Main St., but some members may choose to participate electronically. The chamber will be open for public attendance to provide comments, but social distancing will be enforced and after completing a comment, that person will be asked to leave the chambers.
