The CIF-SS today (Monday) announced its plans for the 2020-21 academic and athletic year, pushing fall sports mostly into the winter, with some overlapping into the spring.
All this, of course, depends on the coronavirus situation and whether schools will actually be open for in-person instruction.
Here’s the rundown on the sports calendar, according to the CIF-SS.
FALL SPORTS
- Boys and girls cross country: First contest Dec. 26. Last league contest March 4.
- Field hockey: First contest Dec. 18. Last league contest Feb. 26.
- 11-man football: First practice date Dec. 14. Week 1 contest date Jan. 8. Week 10 contest date March 12.
- 8-man football: First practice date: Dec. 14. Week 1 contest date Jan 8. Week 9 contest date March 5.
- Gymnastics: First contest Jan. 4. Last league contest March 5.
- Boys’ volleyball: First contest date Dec. 12. Last league contest Feb. 11.
- Girls’ volleyball: First contest date Dec. 19. Last league contest Feb. 18.
- Boys’ water polo: First contest date Dec. 21. Last league contest Feb. 18.
- Girls’ water polo: First contest date Dec. 28. Last league contest Feb. 25.
SPRING SPORTS
- Badminton: First contest date March 6. Last allowable contest: May 15.
- Baseball: First contest date: March 19. Last league contest: May 28.
- Boys’ and girls’ basketball: First contest date March 12. Last league contest: May 21.
- Competitive sport cheer: First contest date March 27. Last league contest: June 5.
- Boys’ and girls’ golf: First contest date March 20. Last league contest: May 28.
- Boys’ and girls’ lacrosse: First contest date March 12. Last league contest May 20.
- Boys’ and girls’ soccer: First contest date Feb. 27. Last league contest May 6.
- Softball: First contest date March 19. Last league contest May 27.
- Boys’ and girls’ swimming/diving: First contest date March 13. Last league contest May 21.
- Boys’ team tennis: First contest date March 1. Last league contest May 14.
- Girls’ team tennis: First contest date Feb. 22. Last league contest May 7.
- Boys’ and girls’ track and field: First contest date: March 20. Last league contest May 28.
