Stanton’s search for a downtown continued on Tuesday when the city council approved a contract worth up to $300,000 to a consulting firm to develop a specific plan for the community’s “Town Center.”
The council voted 5-0 to award the contract to KTGY, a national consulting firm with offices in Los Angeles. It is the company that designed the “Bolsa Row” mixed-use project planned for the Little Saigon area of Westminster that – if built – would include a hotel and other mixed-use purposes.
Back in 2010, the city identified an area on Beach Boulevard that encompasses the city’s Main Street in the area originally known as “Benedict” between Cerritos Avenue and Pacific Street as its potential center. But no action was taken on the plan, in part because of the Great Recession.
Now the city is entering into a deal with KTGY to revise and revive plans to develop the area through:
- a long-term plan for logical growth;
- encourage mixed use development with a focus on housing, active transportation and pedestrian mobility;
- encourage quality development that is compatible with the surrounding area and the community, and;
- provide a thorough investigation of existing environmental conditions, current technical studies and a final environmental document.
