Don’t jump!

The City of Huntington Beach is taking steps to curb dangerous acts in the affluent Huntington Harbour area.

“We have noticed a trend that is not popular among first responders and residents in the area, the lack of safety and respect to private property,” according to Eric Blaska, public information officer for the Huntington Beach Fire Department. “Increased bridge jumping has been reported, climbing onto private docks, life jacket rules not being followed while using paddleboards and kayaks, and standard water safety rules are not being followed.”

In response, the HBFD’s Marine Safety Division will be sending into the area marine safety officers and lifeguards to patrol the area and increase public safety and education.

Stay sober on September 4

A DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint will be conducted from 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4 to 3 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5 at an undisclosed location in Huntington Beach by the HBPD.

Checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests. This checkpoint in particular will be at the start of the Labor Day weekend. Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, as well as checking drivers for proper licensing.
