A PROPOSAL TO HELP FUND another homeless facility goes before the Stanton City Council Tuesday night. It will be located in Fullerton (Flickr/Hajee).
Stanton may be getting another homeless shelter … just not in Stanton.
At Tuesday’s meeting of the City Council, a cooperative funding agreement to share the costs of the Recuperative and Navigation Center in Fullerton will be considered.
Stanton is one of 13 Orange County cities in the Northern Service Planning Area seeking to address the problem of homelessness.
The North SPA already operates facilities for the unsheltered in Buena Park and Placentia with a total capacity of 250 beds. Currently, there’s a need for more space.
Under federal court order, cities may not enforce loitering and camping ordinances unless there is a facility to serve the homeless violating those regulations.
The council meeting will be held via teleconference at 6:30 p.m.
New façade wins planning approval
A modern façade for a new business currently under development on Main Street won approval last Thursday from the Garden Grove Planning Commission.
On a 5-0 vote, planners approved a request to modify the façade for AUM Beer Club, 12900 Main St. That’s the former location of Doug’s Downtown Grill.
The new occupants of the building proposed a more contemporary steel façade, while retaining some elements of the “original” look.
Planners also directed city staff to send a memo to the city council to consider redrafting design standards that some felt were “outdated.”
