Angels, Dodgers work overtime

Both the Angels and Dodgers put in extra time on Tuesday, but achieved slightly different results. As for the Los Angeles Clippers, the first few minutes appeared to be all they needed, jumping out to a early lead and taking the lead in their playoff series.

Halos split doubleheader with Astros

Forced into a double-header after a game postponement, the Los Angeles Angels dropped the first game 6-3 to the Astros in Houston on Tuesday. The Halos yielded five runs in the first inning and never caught up.  Jose Suarez (0-2) lasted one inning, giving up five hits, five earned runs and four walks.  The Angels collected four hits, including a solo home run by Tommy LaStella – his fourth of the season – and an RBI double by Brian Goodwin. Final score: Astros 6, Angels 3.

The Angels started the second game Tuesday much better, pushing across four runs in the top of the first. A key blow was a two-out RBI single by Brian Goodwin that drove in two runs. Angels led 4-0 after one inning and 6-0 after four and a half innings in the seven-inning contest. The Astros rallied with four in the bottom of the inning, but the Halos put the game away by scoring two in the sixth and four in the seven.  David Fletcher had three hits, two RBIs and scored two runs. Brian Goodwin had three RBIs on a double. Angels are now 10-22, fifth place in the AL West. Final score: Angels 12, Astros 5.

11 innings and a late letdown in SF

The two teams were deadlocked at 8-8 in the bottom of the 11th inning until Donovan Solano hit a two-run homer to send everyone home. Justin Turner’s infield single in the top of the 11th scored what was almost the winning run for the Dodgers in the marathon contest in San Francisco Tuesday night. But then the Giants’ Evan Longoria drove in Mike Yastremski in the bottom of the inning to tie it up. The two teams combined for 18 runs, 26 hits, four errors and five home runs. Max Muncy hit a three-run home run in the first and Corey Seager a solo shot in the eighth. Turner has the most productive day, with four hits, two runs scored and one RBI. The Dodgers are 22-9, still in the first place in the NL West. SF is 15-16 and in fourth. Final score: Giants 10, Dodgers 8.

LA Clippers shave the Mavericks

Kawhi Leonard scored 32 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had three assists as the Clippers slammed the Dallas Mavericks 154-111 to take a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference first round playoffs. LAC jumped off to a 19-point first quarter lead and skated away to the win. Paul George also stood out for the Clips with 35 points and three caroms. For Dallas, Luka Doncic scored 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had eight assists. Final score: Clippers 154, Mavericks 111.
