Funds for homeless shelter OK’d

The Stanton City Council on Tuesday night approved a cooperative funding agreement to help pay for another homeless shelter for the unsheltered.

On a 5-0 vote, the council approved a one-time payment of $500,000, from the city’s low-and-moderate housing fund and a payment of $60 daily per bed for every unsheltered person placed from Stanton at the center to be located at 3535 West Commonwealth Ave. in Fullerton.

By federal court order, Stanton and other Orange County cities are not allowed to enforce anti-camping and anti-loitering ordinances on public land unless those cities provide access to shelter.

Stanton also uses facilities in Buena Park and Placentia for its homeless population.
