The Angels saw both their three-game winning streak and their chance to climb out of the AL West basement vanish on Sunday. The Los Angeles Clippers clinched their first round Western Conference playoff round and Cody Bellinger and Co. set a record in the Dodgers victory.
- Seattle Mariners 2, Angels 1: After winning three straight games and moving to within a half-game of climbing to fourth place in the American League West on Sunday, the Halos backslid with a 10-inning defeat in Anaheim. Tim Lopes singled in the winning run for the M’s as the OC team wasted an all-too-rare strong starting pitching performance. Griffin Canning lasted eight innings, yielding four hits and one earned run. He walked one batter and struck out seven. The Angels could manage just five hits, including two by Albert Pujols, a single and a double. The Orange County team is now 12-23, fifth in the division and 10.5 games out of first. Next up is the same matchup at 1:10 p.m. Monday at the Big A.
- Dodgers 7, Texas Rangers 2: In Arlington, the Dodgers blasted their way to another win and a place in the history books. With three home runs – by Corey Seager, Will Smith and Cody Bellinger – LA set a new National League record for most home runs in a month with 57 four-baggers. The Dodgers got homers in the first, second and third innings to build a 4-0 lead. The boys from Chavez Ravine are now 26-10 and lead the NL West (and San Diego) by five games. The Dodgers have Monday off.
