Three-story building gets OK

The modest boom in construction in the downtown area got another boost Thursday when the Garden Grove Planning Commission on approved a re-started site plan to build a three-story building on the city’s historic Main Street.

On a 5-0 vote, planners supported a site plan to construct the mixed-use project at 12885 Main, south of Acacia Parkway, in the city’s original business district.  There will be 3,888-square feet of commercial space on the ground floor, with a total of nine residential units on the two upper two floors.

The project was first approved in 2018 as Smallwood Plaza, but construction didn’t begin and the land has since been used as a parking lot. Applicant Avi Marciano is back to try again to build what would be the tallest building on city’s oldest street, which dates back to 1874-5.
