A special meeting of the Westminster School District Board of Trustees will be held tonight (Friday) to consider a response to allegations about the residency of one of its members.

Frances Nguyen, president of the board and the trustee representing Area 1, has been accused of violating residency requirements necessary to serve on the board.

Fellow Trustee Jamison Power claims that, in order to qualify to run in Area 4 in the November election, she moved into a location – perhaps inadvertently – that was actually outside district limits in the Ocean View School District and thereby vacated her Area 1 seat.

At a recent WSD meeting, 10 persons addressed the board – including three prior trustees – and one member of the Huntington Beach Union High School District board, calling for her to step down.

She did not respond to a request from The Tribune for a comment.

This is the second residency issue to arise regarding the WSD board. Xavier Nguyen, who represented Area 2, resigned in August after being charged with perjury and filing fraudulent nomination papers.

Also on the agenda for tonight is an item for discussion or action on the district’s model for return to in-person instruction.

The meeting will be conducted via web conference beginning at 6:30 p.m.
