Stray cats, energy, land sale

City councils in Garden Grove, Stanton and Westminster will meet next week to consider a variety of topics including the trapping of wild cats, the sale of Civic Center property for development and the waiving of penalties for business licenses during the COVID-19 crisis.

Garden Grove: Stray cat roundup

An agreement with the Stray Cat Alliance for the field cat trapping program to seek to reduce the overpopulation of roaming felines will be considered by the council. Captured cats will be spayed or neutering, vaccinated and then released back to the area where they were picked up. The agreement will cost $70,000.

Also on the agenda are:

• adoption of an ordinance making amendments to the municipal code regarding the regulation of accessory and junior accessory units
• approval of proclamations of February as Black History Month, and Feb. 12 as the Tet Lunar New Year.

The council will meet in virtual session at 6:30 p.m.

Stanton: New energy source?

A study session to review the idea of “Community Choice Energy”  as an alternative to Southern California Edison as a means of getting lower electric rates will be held on Tuesday by the city council. That meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Also on the agenda will be:

• the waiving of penalties for unpaid business license fees in response to the impact on businesses in the coronavirus pandemic in 2021
• filling four vacancies on the community services commission
• authorizing staff to apply for statewide park development and community development grant funds.

Westminster: Civic Center land sale

A closed session at Wednesday’s council meeting will be devoted to negotiation of the possible sale of land in the Civic Center for development of housing and the construction of a new city hall.

The closed sessions will be held at 6 p.m. with the regular session commencing at 7 p.m.  Also on the agenda is a proposed water rate adjustment for fiscal years 2020-21 through 2024-25.
