Masked man may not be you

Tired of wearing that mask, but still wary about the coronavirus? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday advised that Americans who have completed their vaccinations don’t need to wear a face covering outdoors, or when in a small group of people.

You’ll still want to wear a mask if you’re at a crowded outdoor setting, like a sports stadium or concert.

President Joe Biden, while acknowledging the ruling as a “landmark,’ urged people to get a vaccination.

“Go get the shot,” he said, according to the New York Times. “It’s never been easier. And once you’re fully vaccinated, you can go without a mask when you’re outside and stay away from big crowds.”

Although significant progress has made against the COVID-19, the number of cases remain high in some areas of the nation, the worst being in Michigan. Additionally, some surveys have shown that political conservatives have been reluctant to get inoculations.

News: FBI to probe police killing

A civil rights investigation into the shooting death of a Black man in North Carolina will be launched, the agency announced on Tuesday. The family of Andrew Brown, Jr., a man killed by sheriff’s deputies last week in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, released the results of an independent autopsy indicating he had been shot five times, including one bullet to the back of the head.

Brown was shot on April 21 when deputies were serving search and arrest warrants related to allegedly illegal drugs at Brown’s home, according to the Associated Press. He was shot with his hands on the steering wheel of his car as he sought to drive away, viewers of video footage of the incident said.

Three dead in L.A. rampage: A man suspected of going on a shooting spree and killing two people in Los Angeles Tuesday was himself killed by police. His killing ended a pursuit that concluded on a freeway overpass in Orange County. The names of the dead have not been released.

Business: A flat day for Wall Street

Disappointing earnings results by some major corporations are being blamed for a “blah” day on Wall Street. Underwhelming results for Tesla, 3M and Microsoft offset better news the days before, according to Reuters.

The Dow rose 3.36 points to close at 33,984.93. The S&P 500 declined 0.90 points to 4,186.72. Nasdaq was down 48.56 points to 14,090.22

Sports: Baseball expansion will be pricey

Although there are no plans in place to add more Major League Baseball teams, a new franchise would cost around $2.2 million, Sports Illustrated posted Tuesday.

Commissioner Rob Manfred said no expansion could happen until new ballparks are built for the Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays. When that obstacle is cleared, cities that have been mentioned by Manfred as candidates for expansion include Charlotte (North Carolina), Las Vegas, Montreal, Nashville, Portland (Oregon) and Vancouver (British Columbia).

The next few days in West Orange County will be an advance look at your summer weather. Wednesday’s daytime high will be 80 (56 overnight) with sunny skies. Similar but gradually warming (86 on Thursday, 89 on Friday) temperatures will follow. Then, there’s a sharp drop-off to the high 70s come the weekend.

For coastal Huntington Beach, daytime highs will be eight to 10 degrees cooler with a small craft advisory for winds up to 20 miles an hour.
