A man’s body was found hanging from the Huntington Beach Pier early Tuesday morning.
According to Lt. Brian Smith of the HBPD, a 9-1-1 call was received at 5:32 a.m. Responding officers found a deceased person – identified only as a male Caucasian adult – suspended from the pier by a “ligature,” similar to a noose. The scene was adjacent to the Let’s Go Fishing Shop, 21 Main St.
With the help of the Huntington Beach Fire Department and Orange County Sheriff’s Department Harbor Patrol, the body was recovered and turned over to the OCSD’s Coroner Division.
The investigation is ongoing but the incident appears to be a suicide, according to Lt. Smith. The identity of the decedent won’t be released until notification of the next of kin.
The HBPD reminds members of the public that the National Suicide Prevention Hotline is at (800) 273-8255.
