LOCAL HIGH school basketball teams are in the middle of their league seasons.
What with two or three seasons of high school sports jammed together, it’s hard to keep track of just what’s going on. With an eye on our local schools and teams, here’s what we’re been able to figure out for boys and girls basketball. We’ll catch up the other sports next week.
- Academy League: Orangewood Academy (6-10 overall and 5-0 in league) is first
- Empire League: Crean Lutheran (8-2, 6-0 in league) is in first. Pacifica (7-7, 0-6) is in sixth
- Garden Grove League: Santiago (10-2, 6-0) is in first, followed by Bolsa Grande (4-3, 4-1), Los Amigos (3-4, 3-3), Rancho Alamitos (2-4, 2-4), Loara (4-8, 1-4) and La Quinta (1-9,1-5)
- Golden West League: Ocean View (7-6, 6-0) is in first. Garden Grove (4-3, 3-2) is in second and Westminster (1-10, 1-4) is tied for fifth
- Orange League: Western (9-2, 6-0) is first and Magnolia (0-7, 0-4) is fifth
- Orange Coast League: Saddleback (6-1, 6-0) is first. Orange (0-7, 0-5) is sixth
- Surf League: Laguna Beach (12-1, 3-0) is first. Edison (7-6, 1-2) is third
- Wave League: Fountain Valley (8-2, 3-0) is first. Marina (8-6, 2-1) is second and Huntington Beach (5-9, 1-2) is third.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
- Empire League: Tustin (16-3, 6-0) is in first. Pacifica (0-8, 0-6) is in sixth
- Garden Grove League: Santiago (11-2, 6-0) is first, followed by Rancho Alamitos (4-6, 4-2) and La Quinta (6-2, 4-2) tied for second. Loara (2-4, 2-2) and Los Amigos (3-4, 2-4) are tied for fourth. Bolsa Grande (0-6, 0-6) is in sixth
- Golden West League: Segerstrom (6-7, 5-2) is first. Garden Grove (3-4, 3-3) is second. Westminster (2-10, 2-2) and Ocean View (6-6, 3-3) are tied for third
- Orange League: Anaheim (13-4, 5-0) is first, Western (2-3, 2-3) is fourth and Magnolia (2-5, 2-4) is fifth.
- Orange Coast League: Saddleback (6-1, 6-0) is in first. Orange (0-7, 0-5 is sixth
- San Joaquin League: Fairmont Prep (10-6, 5-1) is first and Orangewood Academy (8-3, 4-1) is second
- Surf League: Corona del Mar (11-5, 3-0) is in first. Huntington Beach (10-2, 2-1) is second
- Wave League: Newport Harbor (10-2, 3-0) is in first, followed by Edison (7-5, 2-1) and Marina (3-13, 1-2).
And off to the polls ….
Here are the local results from CIF-SS polls for basketball, baseball, softball, etc. released on Monday. We note the top-ranked school team, and any from The Tribune’s coverage area of the communities of Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster.
BOYS BASKETBALL
- Division 3A: Knight is first. Marina is fourth and Ocean View is tied for 16th
- Division 4A: Poly/Pasadena is first. Santiago is sixth, Orangewood Academy is seventh and Huntington Beach is 12th
- Division 5AA: Calvary Chapel/Santa Ana is first; Western is third
- Division 5A: Orange is first
GIRLS BASKETBALL
- Open Division: Orangewood Academy
- Division 1: Mater Dei is first; Orangewood Academy is seventh
- Division 4AA: Santiago is first; La Quinta is ninth
- Division 5AA: Linfield Christian is first. Ocean View is seventh and Western is 16th
- Division 5A: Pacifica Christian is first. Loara is 11th and Los Amigos is 12th
BASEBALL
• Division 1: Ayala is first and Huntington Beach is seventh
- Division 2: Thousand Oaks is first. Ocean View was not ranked but received some votes
- Division 6: Aquinas is first. Garden Grove and Orange were not ranked but received some votes
SOFTBALL
- Division 1: Norco is first. Pacifica is second and Huntington Beach is fifth
- Division 5: Western Christian is first. Ocean View was not ranked but received some votes
- Division 6: St. Bonaventure is first. Garden Grove is eighth
- Division 7: Southlands Christian is first. Magnolia is not ranked but received some votes
BOYS DUAL MEET WRESTLING
- Division 5: Sonora is first and Westminster is second
- Division 6: Western is first
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
- Divisions 1 and 2: Loyola is first and Huntington Beach is seventh
- Division 4: Marina is first. Garden Grove was not ranked but received some votes
- Division 5: ML King is first. Rancho Alamitos is not ranked but received some votes
- Division 6: Capistrano Valley Christian is first and Orange is fifth
BOYS TENNIS
- Division 3: Servite is third
GIRLS DUAL MEET WRESTLING
- Division 1: Corona is first. Pacifica is unranked but did receive some votes.
