New cases tumble to a new low

Confirmed new cases of coronavirus in Orange County hit another new low on Monday, while other metrics used to measure the illness rose slightly.

According to the county health care agency, the number of new cases is at 26, down both from Sunday’s 47 and Saturday’s 29. Deaths rose from two to three and hospitalizations connected to the virus increased from 69 to 76. Patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units ticked up from 10 to 11.

The to-date total of cases in the OC is now at 255,048, of which 248,552 are considered recovered. Deaths are at 5,052.

Nationally, new cases have declined 38 percent over the last 14 days, according to The New York Times. Deaths are estimated to have decreased by 15 percent. In California, according to the Los Angeles Times, cases are down 33 percent and deaths by 30 percent.
