Softball playoffs open Wednesday

Ten area teams will open play Wednesday in the CIF-SS softball playoffs.  Two local teams are seeded in Division 1; Huntington Beach is second behind Norco and Pacifica is third. They are also in that order in the final 2021 poll.

Here are the first round pairings – including overall records – as announced Saturday by the CIF-SS office. Games are scheduled for a 3:15 p.m. start, but opponents, locations, times, etc. are subject to change without notice. Check with the CIF office or home school.

• Division 1: Marina (11-9) at Pacifica (18-3). Great Oak (10-10) at Huntington Beach (20-4).
• Division 4: Santiago (7-3) at Newport Harbor (15-8). Rosary Academy (16-11) at Loara (12-5).
• Division 5: Savanna (0-0) at Ocean View (12-10). La Quinta (9-7) at Capistrano Valley (13-4).
• Division 6: Costa Mesa (10-5) at Rancho Alamitos (13-9).
• Division 7: Leuzinger (7-11) at Magnolia (0-0). Santa Ana (5-12) at Orangewood Academy (7-4).

Three local teams won or tied for first in league softball play for the 2021 season. Here’s how our locals – school teams serving Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster – did in league play, according to final standings published by the CIF-SS.

• Empire: Pacifica (9-1 in league, 18-3 overall), Cypress (9-1, 14-8). Kennedy (6-4, 10-10). Crean Lutheran (4-6, 8-9). Valencia (2-8, 3-14). Tustin (0-10 overall).
