TODAY, JUNE 15 is the day of the Great Reopening. Here’s what to expect (Shutterstock).
Is this the day when you take off that mask, go to the pub and party hearty in celebration of the “Great Reopening?”
Well, sort of. Maybe.
Although the threat from the coronavirus pandemic is greatly reduced because of vaccines and public health measures, the latest order from the office of Gov. Gavin Newsom loosens some restrictions and keeps some others.
According to the California Department of Public Health, here’s the new situation, as of today (Tuesday, June 15).
Here’s what’s over (with some exceptions):
- Physical distancing
- Capacity limits in businesses
- That color-coded tier system
Some limits and rules remain. For example:
- If you are unvaccinated, you should wear a mask, especially indoors or in a crowded place.
- Regardless of your vaccination status, face coverings are required in public transit, hospitals, long-term care facilities, homeless shelters and indoors in K-12 schools, child care centers and “other youth settings” (doesn’t apply to youth sports).
If you’re planning on attending a “mega event” with 5,000 or more people inside or 10,000 or more outside, here are some rules:
- Indoor events with 5,000 or more people will require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 status.
- Outdoor events with 10,000 or more people, it’s recommended that attendees have proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 status.
