A busy 4th for fire and police

AT LEAST two fires were reported over the July 4 weekend in Garden Grove, one on Norma Lane and the other on Vickers Street (GGPD photo).

Firefighters and police officers were busy in Garden Grove over the July 4 weekend.

According to the Garden Grove Police Department, 77 citations were written for illegal fireworks. Of those, 68 were initiated by patrolling officers and nine by those dispatched in response to citizen complaints.

There were 167 fireworks calls for service on July 4, and a total of 245 calls for service related to fireworks July 1-5. They reported “no enforcement issues” at sanctioned block parties.

At least two fires were reported, one on Vickers Drive and another on Norma Lane.
