CORONAVIRUS cases in Orange County appear to be on the increase, according to statistics released by the county health care agency today (Shutterstock).

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Orange County over the past week is at 1,050, as reported today (Tuesday) by the county health care authority.

New deaths are at nine for the week of July 6-13. Hospitalizations are at 119 and patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units are at 25.

While it’s difficult to compare today’s weekly tally with earlier daily reports from the OCHCA, 1,050 cases over a seven-day period averages out to 150 per day. The last daily total on June 30 was 51.

To date, the total number of coronavirus cases is at 257,826, of which 250,407 are considered recovered. The death total is 5,133.

Orange County’s apparent increase tracks with other tallies. The New York Times is reporting that over a 14-day period, there’s been a 94 percent increase in new cases nationwide, although deaths are down by 12 percent.

The Los Angeles Times reports that cases in California have increased by 165 percent over a similar period, and deaths are up 16 percent.
