Student representatives to the school board will be allowed a greater voice under a proposed policy change going before the Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education when it meets tonight (Tuesday).
Reflecting a change in the state Education Code, the student rep chosen from among high school leaders will get a “preferential vote” on matters before the board. It won’t count as an official vote, but would give such students an opportunity to officially register student opinion.
The board will meet at 5 p.m. for public comments prior to the closed session, which begins at 5:05 p.m. with an evaluation of the superintendent. The regular board meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Because of the coronavirus, the meeting will be conducted via telecommunication.
GGUSD is a K-12 district serving most of Garden Grove and parts of adjacent cities, including Anaheim, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Santa Ana, Stanton and Westminster.
