“Environmental Justice” in plan

AN ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE element has been added to the Garden Grove General Plan (Shutterstock).

The City of Garden Grove’s Draft Focused General Plan Update which includes revisions to the Housing Element, Land Use Element, Safety Element, and adoption of a new Environmental Justice Element are now available for public review and comment at ggcity.org/housing-element. The update will establish goals, objectives, and policies to guide future developments in the city and comply with current state mandates. The Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) which analyzes the potential impacts of the proposed Draft Focused General Plan Update and Zoning Amendments is also available online for public review and comment until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at ggcity.org/planning.

The proposed Housing Element establishes programs, policies, and actions to meet the existing and projected housing needs in the community; the Land Use Element incorporates the housing growth identified in the Housing Element; the Safety Element addresses climate change vulnerabilities and resilience; and the new Environmental Justice Element focuses on addressing community needs such as providing residents with access to healthy food, physical activity, safe and sanitary housing, and reducing pollution citywide.

The community is also encouraged to attend the first public hearing for consideration of the adoption of the Draft Focused General Plan Update and Zoning Amendments and certification of the EIR on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chamber, at the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.
