Vaccines for 5 to 11 year-olds

The Pfizer vaccine for COVID-19 will work for children ages 5 to 11 years old, the company announced on Monday.

Authorization for the inoculation of those young people is being sought, the Associated Press is reporting. The “jab” would involve a significantly lower dose, but that is expected to provide coronavirus antibodies as powerful as those in bigger doses given to teenagers and young adults.

The Food and Drug Administration has said it will study Pfizers’ test results and expects to decide within weeks whether the vaccine is safe and effective for that age group.

According to the AP, over 5 million American children have tested positive for coronavirus since the pandemic began and at least 460 have died.

Trudeau will stay as Canada’s prime minister

The Liberal Party, headed by Justin Trudeau, will win enough seats in the Canadian parliament for Trudeau to keep the office of prime minister.

According to Canadian TV news reports, Trudeau – who became the nation’s political leader in 2015 – will be able to combine the seats of his party with other, smaller parties and retain his post.

He is the son of Pierre Trudeau, who served two terms as prime minister, from 1968-1979 and 1979-1984.

Sports: Dodgers idle, Angels take on Astros

Both the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants had the day off today (Monday) but will resume their tooth and nail struggle for supremacy in the NL West. The Blue Crew will be back in action Tuesday with the start of a three-game series against the Rockies in Denver.

The Angels, who are on the edge of being officially eliminated from the playoff picture are playing the Houston Astros in Anaheim tonight. The series will continue through Thursday

Weather: A hot time in the towns

Sunny and hot. That’s the outlook for the West Orange County area for the next two days. Weather.com is predicting a high of 90 degrees on Tuesday, with an overnight low of 65. That temperature will rise to 94 on Wednesday. The heat should break after that dropping to 84 on Thursday and 81 on Friday. In the coastal areas of Huntington Beach, highs will be about 10 degrees cooler.
