Garden Grove High’s football team added another shutout victory to its resume Friday night as the Argonauts defeated Glenn High of Norwalk 49-0 in a non-league game.

Vany Rodriguez threw four touchdown passes – two to Dominick Brito – and Malachi Bey ran for two more scores as Grove improved its record to 5-2. The Eagles fell to 2-5.

So far this season, all the Argo wins have been one-sided shutouts, by scores of 48-0, 48-0, 50-0, 70-0 and now 49-0.

Big 4 League play starts next Friday as Grove hosts Katella (4-3) at Monsoor Stadium in a game what will probably determine the league champ.

In an unexpectedly close game, Pacifica (now 6-1 overall and 2-0 in league) outlasted Valencia 45-42 in an Empire League game. The Mariners built a 25-7 halftime lead, but the Tigers (1-5, 1-1) rallied for 35 second-half points to turn it into nail-biter.

Valencia’s surge even resulted in a 42-34 lead with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter, but the M’s scored the last 11 points to rescue the win.

Santiago and Rancho Alamitos each posted wins to improve their records to 6-1 and move toward a likely Garden Grove League title showdown on Oct. 22. Both are 2-0 in GGL play.
