PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN is hoping a series of compromises will allow him to sign into law a $2 trillion package to expand the social safety need and combat climate change (White House photo).
President Joe Biden’s $2 trillion domestic package for the social safety net and climate change – scaled down from $3.5 trillion – is getting close to a deal that could allow it to pass.
“Look – hey, look, it’s all about compromise,” said Biden at a town hall earlier this week, according to The New York Times. But compromise might not be enough in other areas as the Senate filibuster rule is blocking legislation to protect voting rights.
A filibuster – a move to prevent action in the Senate by speaking at length to cause delay – now requires 60 votes to overcome. Most Democrats in the upper house want to abolish it, and all Republicans – along with two Democrats – have expressed opposition to the change.

UCLA came close, but not close enough in its Pac-12 football game Saturday against 10th ranked Oregon. The Bruins jumped out to a 14-0 lead, fell behind 27-17, rallied and made it close, finally losing 34-31. The Ducks are 6-1 and the Uclans are 5-3,

Weather: Rain left but will return
Saturday’s rain in the West Orange County area will leave on Sunday, but return on Monday. The forecast for Sunday is for a high of 73 with morning clouds and afternoon sun. But the next day has an 89 percent chance of rain and a high of 66. Sunny skies should resume on Tuesday and continue through the week and into next weekend.
