WP titles Sat.; hoops Monday

HUNTINGTON BEACH and Ocean View are in CIF-SS water polo title games on Saturday (Shutterstock).

It’s not surprising that two of the schools competing for CIF-SS Division water polo titles on Saturday are from Huntington Beach, considering their proximity to the Pacific Ocean.

Ocean View (10-13) will play Crean Lutheran (21-6) in the D-6 game at 9:30 a.m. Huntington Beach (24-2) will meet Newport Harbor (25-5) in the Open Division final at 1:30 p.m.

The championships are held at William Woolett Jr. Aquatic Center in Irvine.

Ticket prices are $12 general admission and $5 for high school students (with ID) and children 13 and under.

Hooping heats up on Monday

MOST AREA high school basketball teams will start their seasons on Monday (Shutterstock).

For most high school basketball teams in the West Orange County area, the season starts on Monday, although some will tip off later and one has already played one contest. Here are the opening games (in most) cases. As always, games, times and places are subject to change without notice.
