A proposal to build a five-unit apartment complex was approved on Thursday evening by the Garden Grove Planning Commission.
Also Thursday night, the panel gave approval on a 6-0-1 vote (with Ariana Arestegui recusing herself) to the proposed expansion of the shopping center at the northwest corner of Westminster Avenue and Brookhurst Street.
Sunbelt Stores, Inc. wants to increase the 180,449-square foot center by building four new buildings. The existing Firestone auto repair shop would be demolished and replaced by a 5,600-square foot drive-through multi-tenant building.
The center is anchored by a Target department store and the Garden Grove Superstore.
