Cases fall, other stats on rise

Confirmed new coronavirus cases in Orange County declined in Tuesday’s report, but three other metrics showed increases.

According to the county health agency, new cases declined from Monday’s five-day average of 245 to 222. However, deaths rose from seven to 15, hospitalizations from 181 to 196 and the number of patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units increased from 43 to 52.

So far, Orange County has had 312,845 cases, of which 301,233 are considered recovered. Deaths now total 5,721.

Across the U.S., new cases have declined 4 percent and deaths by 18 percent over a 14-day period, according to The New York Times.  In California, Los Angeles Times calculates that – over a similar period – new cases are down 20 percent and deaths by 23 percent.
