Planners mull “urban lot split”

IMPLEMENTATION of the new “urban lot split” law goes before the Garden Grove Planning Commission on Thursday (Shutterstock).

The “urban lot split” law that goes into effect with the New Year is expected to be entering the Garden Grove Municipal Code soon.

Senate Bill 9, passed by the state Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom, requires cities to allow property owners to divide lots in single family zones into two lots with up to two residences, provided the lots not be smaller than 12,000 square feet.

On Thursday, the Garden Grove Planning Commission will consider a municipal code amendment to implement SB 9 that includes development standards outlined by the new law.

The commission will meet in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave. at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear masks and maintain a six-foot distance from others.

Anyone with information on this vehicle is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department at (714) 647-7000.

  1. When single family lots become duplex slash condo squeezes and the majority of the people did not agree to this, did not buy their homes for this, but elitist legislators, impose it, we have a nasty problem.

Add the opportunist investors who have zero vested interest except for profiteering off our neighborhoods. Harming our harmony. But that seems to be the point these days.
    Weird a s s times. 🙃 Upside down world.

    • It’s not smaller 1200 sq feet, y’all. Not 12,000.
Some are building 1200 sq ft full on houses with their own shiny new addresses already.
Los Angeles did this decades ago. And, well, Los Angeles. High rises over Craftsmans.
Is that next for us, too? Boo.🤑🤮🤢
