The “urban lot split” law that goes into effect with the New Year is expected to be entering the Garden Grove Municipal Code soon.
Senate Bill 9, passed by the state Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom, requires cities to allow property owners to divide lots in single family zones into two lots with up to two residences, provided the lots not be smaller than 12,000 square feet.
On Thursday, the Garden Grove Planning Commission will consider a municipal code amendment to implement SB 9 that includes development standards outlined by the new law.
The commission will meet in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave. at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear masks and maintain a six-foot distance from others.
Hit-and-run vehicle is sought
The public’s help is being sought in identifying a vehicle associated with a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Nov. 23 in the area of Knott Street and Katella Avenue in Stanton.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department – which provides police services for Stanton – the suspect vehicle struck and fatally injured a pedestrian who was in the roadway at 5:40 a.m. The suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of deputies.
The vehicle may be a light-colored SUV with roof racks and dark trim at the bottom of the vehicle. It may have suffered front-end damage and could be a Ford Expedition from model years 2003 to 2007.

Community Cleanup Day on Dec. 11
On Saturday, Dec. 11, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., the City of Garden Grove, in partnership with Republic Services, will host a community cleanup day, offering residents the opportunity to properly dispose of bulky items for free. The drop-off location will be held at Garden Grove Park, located at 9301 Westminster Blvd. The event is open to Garden Grove residents only.
Residents may bring unwanted household items, including bulky items and electronic waste, such as appliances, furniture, mattresses, televisions, printers, and computers. This will be a self-service event in which residents will be unloading their own items. The Garden Grove Public Works Department will be onsite to help elderly and disabled individuals who may need assistance.
Items not accepted include hazardous waste, including paint and oil; and green waste, such as grass clippings and leaves.
The next community cleanup day is Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at 13451 Taft St.
