A new dog park in southwest Stanton and a parkette on Orangewood Avenue will be built, following approval by the Stanton City Council Tuesday evening.

A 54,866 square-foot vacant, “underutilized” property, running east-southeast from Western Avenue to Cerritos Avenue, will be turned into a dog park after being approved at Tuesday’s Stanton City Council meeting. Another similar property, located at the end of Orangewood Avenue and sized at 9,450 square feet, will be developed into a parkette.

The council also approved:

The council voted unanimously on all items, except the appropriation of $60,000 from the Capital Projects Fund (under the American Rescue Plan Act) for the replacement of sheriff’s substation flooring.

“I’m not entirely convinced that the public would be so eager to use ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funding for flooring,” said Councilmember Hong Van.

The fourth public hearing regarding revisions to district electoral boundaries, as required under the California and federal Voting Rights Act, will be held in person on March 8th at the Stanton City Hall.

Also, city staff encouraged the public to attend Stanton’s second community garden event on March 5, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. This ‘family-friendly” event will include live music, lessons from a master gardener, and an assortment of freebies.
