Pursuit on PCH ends in arrest

A PURSUIT down Beach Boulevard and along Pacific Coast Highway resulted in an arrest Friday

A pursuit, collision, standoff and eventual arrest closed a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach this (Thursday) morning.

According to Public Information Officer Jennifer Carey, the incident began around 10 a.m. when an HBPD officer spotted a sedan speeding southbound on Beach Boulevard near Indianapolis.  The motorist would not yield for a traffic stop and a pursuit ensued.

The chase continued onto the westbound PCH, but then the fleeing vehicle crossed over the center median and continued westbound in eastbound lanes. The suspect ‘s car crashed into a parked automobile, but the pursuit didn’t end until the escape route was blocked by an HBPD vehicle.

After a standoff in which the suspect refused to exit his vehicle, he eventually complied and was arrested. From there he was taken to a local hospital but he had not suffered any serious injuries.

The suspect had “known prior incidents” in Long Beach and was released into the custody of the Long Beach Police Department.
Eastbound lanes of PCH between Huntington Street and Beach Boulevard were closed for several hours while officers completed their investigation.
