The Huntington Beach High baseball team is rated among the best in the nation, but that didn’t intimidate Fountain Valley High on Friday.

With three runs in the top of the fourth, the Barons jumped out to a lead, and held off a two-run rally by the Oilers in the bottom of the seventh to post a 3-2 Surf League victory.

The outcome doesn’t do much to affect the league race, however. The orange-and-black are 8-1 in the conference and in first place. They’re 15-7 overall. FVHS is now 3-6 in the Surf League (third place) and 9-14 overall.

Also on Friday, Orange High defeated Santa Ana 5-4 to take over first place in the Orange Coast League. The Panthers rallied from 4-0 and 4-3 deficits, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh. They’re now 8-3 in OCL play, ahead of the Saints (7-4).

However, on Saturday, Orange lost a non-league game to district rival El Modena, falling 10-1 to the Vanguards.
