A BICYCLIST died after being struck by an automobile on PCH in Huntington Beach Tuesday evening (Shutterstock).
A bicyclist was fatally injured Tuesday evening when struck by an automobile in Huntington Beach.
According to Jessica Cuchilla, public information officer for the HBPD, the accident took place after 6 p.m. on Pacific Coast Highway, north of Admiralty Drive.
Arriving officers found the cyclist, a 42-year-old man, lying in the roadway in critical condition. He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
The driver of a 2018 Toyota RAV4, Barbara Front, 70, of Huntington Beach, remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Police believe the Toyota was traveling southbound on PCH and struck the cyclist traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the roadway.

The Huntington Beach police department needs to start writing tickets to speeders that drive down PCH from Seal Beach driving 60-70 mph. It happens all the time. Me and my husband have seen our lives pass before our eyes many times just trying to cross the street at Anderson and PCH. Drivers are out of control since covid.
I’m deeply saddened by the loss of life at the young age of 42, and yes DUI is wrong. But the facts say the bicyclists was traveling the wrong way on the PCH. Why would you do that? Sober or not, no one is expecting oncoming traffic in your lane. I see it often on this stretch of road and never have understood it.
Agree completely about the cyclist going against traffic and if the driver had not had alcohol in her system, it would be a different story foe her
