WESTMINSTER MALL is located at Goldenest Street and Bolsa Avenue in Westminster (OC Tribune photo).

A public hearing on the proposed Westminster Mall Specific Plan will be held at the Wednesday, Nov. 2 meeting of the Westminster Planning Commission.

The meeting will be open to public and to be watched virtually via Zoom.

Revamping the mall has been a priority since 2016 as vacancies, changing consumer buying habits and in the retail industry turned the center into a declining property, leading to falling sales tax revenue to the city.

The coronavirus pandemic further interrupted progress on developing a plan for the property, but there’s a specific plan now available that aims to create a “destination” mixed-use center with 3,000 housing units, 1.1 million square feet of commercial space and 425 hotel rooms.

The commission meets at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at 8200 Westminster Blvd.
