Library fines finally gone?

If you checked out a copy of “Pet Cemetery” a long while back at a Huntington Beach city library and neglected to return it and pay the fines, relax.

At tonight’s (Tuesday) meeting, the Huntington Beach City Council is expected to approve a proposal to discontinue overdue fines and waive all accumulated unpaid overdue fines.

That would be in keeping with other library systems across Orange County and the nation, as the payment of fines has been considered an obstacle that keeps some customers from returning to use library services.

Overdue books should still be returned.

Also Tuesday night, the council will consider:

The council will meet in its chambers at 2000 Main St., with a closed session at 2:30 p.m.,  study session at 3 p.m. and the regular meeting at 6 p.m.
