City Hall getting charged up?

If you live in Huntington Beach, you might find it easier to charge your electric vehicle in the future.

The city council will tonight consider a partnership between Southern California Edison and the city of Huntington Beach to install, at no cost to the city, a charging infrastructure at the Civic Center at 2000 Main St.

The site has been determined by SCE to fit the qualifications for a charging infrastructure to be installed, and if the council decides to go forward with the proposal, 24 charging stations would be made available for use at the Civic Center parking lot.

This would be a 10-year commitment for Huntington Beach, and if the installment at the Civic Center were to be successful, residents who own electric vehicles (EVs) would be offered a rebate to have charging stations installed in their own homes.

EV owners would have to purchase the charging station from a vendor themselves, after which they may provide proof of the purchase to the SCE to have the cost of purchase offset.

The city council will discuss the agreement tonight (Tuesday) at 6 in the very Civic Center where electric vehicle chargers may soon appear. Those who wish to make their opinion known about SCE’s offer will have the chance to do so during the public comments section.
