Billboards and budgets are the focus of next Wednesday’s meeting of the Westminster City Council.

Consideration of electronic billboards on city-owned property as a means of raising new revenue for the municipal treasury starts with a closed session at 5:30 p.m. Two locations – “Old Edwards Street” and Beach Boulevard and Edinger Street – are being considered for such boards along the San Diego (405) Freeway.

The session will be for a conference with real property negotiators over the price and terms of payment for a lease.

During the regular session, which is scheduled to start at 6 p.m., the council will consider selecting  a qualified firm– likely Branded Cities Los Angeles Los Angeles LLC – to develop, build, operate and maintain the e-boards on that city property.

Also on Wednesday, the council will consider approval of the 2023-24 budgets. Balancing the books for the next fiscal year – starting July 1 – will require $3 million from reserves and $6 million the following year.

The council will meet in its chambers at 8200 Westminster Ave.
